Causes of Anger
Many of us aren't sure what causes anger. Is it too much stress or poor emotional control? Something buried deep in our subconscious? Do angry people need stress relief? What are the most common causes of anger?
The following are common causes that provoke anger:
• Frustration and stress
• Being overtired
• Keeping feelings bottled up inside
• Feeling misunderstood or ignored
Anger is simply defined as an emotional state. It can range from mild irritation to an intense state called rage. It also has some common physical effects, including raised blood pressure, and increased heart rate, and higher than usual adrenaline and nor-adrenaline levels. Anger has been viewed as part of the well documented fight or flight response to pain or the threat of it.
From the outside, we can see people's anger in their facial expressions and body language. Almost all humans and animals stare directly, try to look larger, and make loud noises when they feel angry. It's rare that any kind of fight happens without one or more participants expressing anger physically first. The consequences of uncontrolled anger can be devastating to personal relationships and physical well-being. Poor anger management is a key factor in domestic violence, child abuse, relationship problems, behavior problems, workplace violence, substance abuse, school and workplace violence and delinquency, and criminal behavior. Anger can actually cause or worsen health problems, including high blood pressure and depression.
Humans have more complicated causes of anger than most animals. That's because we have the ability to imagine cases that would only occur in the distant future. The threat of pain doesn't need to be physical for us, and it doesn't need to be happening now. We can be angry about things we think will cause us problems later, or about another person violating expected behavioral norms, from interpersonal and social boundaries to legal or ethical boundaries.
Our own behavior is the one thing we can control no matter the circumstances. Anger management techniques teach constructive ways to deal with issues that arise and how to replace destructive behaviors with new ones that will enhance the overall quality of your life.
Another important cause for anger is frustrated feeling. People get angry when they want something and they do not get it and get something which they do not want. Some may feel extreme anger when they fail to get something they definitely want to have. Activating events can cause anger. If for example you want to listen news and your children are playing noisily then you will get anger. Some psychological causes can lead to anger. Tension, lack of humor sense etc may result in anger frequently. If you do not have problem solving efficiency then you will get anger soon.
